RAWALPINDI: The military courts have ceased to function on expiry of mandated period, said Inter-Services Public Relations.
According to a statement of ISPR issue here, the courts were established through constitutional amendment in the environment of heightened terrorism.
ISPR said that during the period of its validity, 274 cases were referred to Military Courts and some 161 culprits were awarded death penalty and 12 of them were executed.
It said that 113 were awarded imprisonment of varying duration. It said that cases were dealt through due process of law in Military Courts.
The disposal through military courts yielded positive effects towards reduction in terrorist’s activities.
