Islamabad (April 12, 2018): Federal Minister For Power Awais Leghari on Thursday said that the K-Electric would not be supplied the gas unless it pays-off the dues of the Sui Southern Gas Company.

He said that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) should take notice of the issue.

“NEPRA, KE and SSGC should sit together to resolve the issue,” he said adding that the government is providing excessive electricity to K-Electric.“There will be less electricity where there is more theft,” he said adding that the power outages badly effect the economy and the government is trying to overcome it.

It is pertinent to mention here that Citizens poured out onto the streets Wednesday night here in the city’s Azizabad and Aisha Manzil localities to protest disrupted supply of basic amenities.

Blocking roads in their surroundings, the areas’ residents said they were inconvenienced by unannounced load-shedding and water shortages, and noting that the power cuts contributed to water issues. The demonstrators stressed that the clash between the K-Electric (KE) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) leaves customers sandwiched in the middle, with double the problems.

However, a KE spokesperson said late night that the menace of load-shedding could not be fixed until the gas shortage is addressed.

On the other hand, a team comprising top officials of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to analyse the power situation in the country’s biggest industrial hub.
