SC Calls For Detailed Report of Missing Persons Commission

Islamabad (October 26, 2017): Supreme Court has called for the detailed report over the performance of the Commission formed to probe the persons gone missing.

During the hearing of the case pertaining to missing persons by three-member bench of the apex court Justice Ejaz Afzal commented that the Mission Persons Commission hasn’t done any work during the last 16 months. It may be mentioned here that the bench is headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal.

At the start of the hearing today the court asked the Deputy Attorney General about the performance of the Missing Persons Commission since its inception. Tell the court when did the Commission last hear the missing persons case, the court asked the Deputy Attorney General.Saying that the cases pertaining to missing persons are wwith the Commission he informed the court that the last meeting of the Commission was held on June 25, 2016. The Deputy Attorney General also said that the Commission is effectively performing.

On this Justice Ejaz Afzal said that the court is unaware of Commission’s performance because no record whatsoever has given provided to it as yet.

At this point in time petitioner Tariq Asad said that had the Commission be performing he would not have had made to approach the apex court. Saying that the Missing Persons Commission has not registered more than 25 cases of missing persons while despite passage of substantial period of time nothing has been done by the Commission the petitioner plead the court to hear the cases of missing persons on top priority basis, he added.

On this Justice Ejaz Afzal said that the Missing Persons Commission hasn’t held a single hearing during the last 16 months. The situation could only be cleared after looking at the performance report of the Commission, he added.

Calling for detailed performance report of Missing Persons Commission the court adjourned the hearing of the case till tomorrow (October 27).
