Mobile Phone Service Suspended in Major Cities

Islamabad (September 29, 2017) : Cellular phone service was suspended in major cities across the country on Saturday amid strict security measures for mourning processions being taken out across the country.  

Mobile phone service was suspended in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and other cities.

Mobile phone services had also been partially suspended in different parts of the country on Friday.The respective provincial governments have requested Interior Ministry and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to block mobile phones services in all major cities of the country on 9th and 10th Muharram in a bid to ensure foolproof security of the processions.

Mobile phone services even remained suspended in Karachi and Faisalabad yesterday on 8th Muharram.It is to be mentioned here that mourning procession are being taken out across the country to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

In Karin Karachi, the main procession is taken out from Nishtar Park which ill culminate at Hussainian Iranian imaambargah in Kharadar.Meanwhile, the streets and roads linked to MA Jinnah Road have been blocked with shipping containers. A large number of police and paramilitary troops have been deployed on the route of the main procession.

The government has already banned pillion riding in Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar in wake of Ashura security.Metro bus services have also been suspended in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on 9th and 10th Muharram.
