Monsoon Special: Here Is Why To Avoid Roadside Bhutta

Web Desk(July 06, 2018): Now that the monsoon is finally here, our appetite for hot foods has gone up. One such hot favorite is the roadside bhutta or corn which most of us eat while rushing back from work.

But to think that this is a healthy option and can do no harm is wrong. Here are five reasons this monsoon favorite needs to be avoided:

Flies All Around:

We are familiar with flies on our food, right? Turns out, flies contain numerous pathogens which can cause serious diseases. Most roadside bhutta vendors sit near walls or areas which often have been urinated on. And the consistent accumulation of pee attracts flies.

Dirty Griddle:

Since the vendors are super busy during monsoon, cleanliness takes a backseat. The cooking griddle which is used for bhutta is often covered in deposits of coal. This is carcinogenic in nature. If the bhutta is covered in coal or has marks on it, it is bad.

Unheigenic Hands:

Always see the water bottle that is kept beside the vendor. Chances are that the bottle is dirty and the water is also stale. Most vendors wash hands with mud and water, which is dangerous since both mud and water contain disease-causing microorganisms.

The Lemon And Masala Are Old:

Squeezed lemon juice and masala is the highlight of this roadside specialty. Breaking news, both are old and used and reused for days together. The masala contains chili flakes and the chat masala. The lemon, on the other hand, is often the rotten kind. This is because to save money, most vendors buy the rejected lemons from vegetable sellers. Therefore, not a great idea to opt for this combination.

Air Contamination:

Let’s face it, the air we breathe is not clean anymore. The bhuttas are lying in the open through the day and coming in contact with all sorts of air contaminants. Hence, to save yourself from a host of diseases in this sickness prone weather, avoid any such roadside specialty.
