MQM-P Lawmaker Sumeta Afzal Joins PSP

Karachi (April 15, 2018): Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Sindh Assembly lawmaker Sumeta Afzal on Sunday announced to join Pak Sarzameen Party. 

She was elected member provincial assembly on reserved seats for women and is currently part of Sindh Assembly standing committees on Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Energy, Women Development, Sports and Youth Affairs and Industries and Commerce.

On Sunday night, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan PIB faction Head Farooq Sattar on Sunday said that he would die but would not join Pak Sarzameen Party or any other political party .

He said that a conspiracy is being hatched to eliminate MQM-Pakistan and Kite-election symbol of the party- from the next elections and the process of shifting loyalties is on the riser to make it happen.

“We have given the sacrifice of our supreme leader and now our patience should not be tested more,” he said adding that PSP leaders are threatening him for a meeting.

He further asked that if there is a plan to wipe out MQM-P from next polls then they should be informed of it so that they could clear the path for PSP, PPP or whoever party, they wanted to bring instead of MQM-P.

On April 14, Central MQM-Pakistan leader, Shabbir Qaimkhani, who announced to quit party on April 04 due to the internal rifts between the Bahadurabad and PIB factions, announced to join Pak Sarzameen Party.

The former excise and taxation minister for Sindh is the first MQM-Pakistan Bahadurabad faction leader to join the PSP.

Qaimkhani, who hails from Mirpurkhas and was one of the MQM-P candidates for Senate elections held on March 03, was also offered by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan People’s Party to join their parties but he preferred PSP over them.

Shhabir Qaimkhani was also a member of MQM-P coordination committee and while announcing his decision to quit party said that during last two months MQM received back-to-back setbacks and party leadership from the both end instead of resolving the issue preferred to mark foundation day separately.On April 11, Syed Anwar Raza, an elected provincial lawmaker from PS-102, announced jumping into the ship of the PSP from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

Raza is the latest politician to switch sides before the upcoming general elections.

On April 08, MQM-P NA-242 lawmaker Mehboob Alam and MPAs Saifuddin Khalid and Muhammad Kamran joined PSP.

On April 8, three Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan lawmakers on Sunday announced to join Pak Sarzameen Party.

Those who joined included Member National Assembly Mehboob Alam, provincial assembly lawmakers Saifuddin Khalid and Kamran Farouqi.Speaking on the occasion, PSP Chief Mustafa Kamal said that within few days 4 MNA’s and 4 MPA’s have announced their inclusion in his party.

We never abused anyone and we were sure that many people will join us as we have continued our struggle for better Pakistan, he added.

These defections are part of the ongoing defections from MQM-P which had occurred in the last more than a week due to the ongoing rifts among the party factions led by Farooq Sattar and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Earlier, on April 4, MQM-P MNA Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi, who belonged to the Farooq Sattar-led faction of MQM-P, joined PSP.

Qureshi was elected member of the National Assembly MNA from NA-253. He was also elected member Sindh Assembly in 2008.

On April 1, MQM-P MNA from Hyderabad, Waseem Hussain, announced joining the PSP whereas on March 29, MQM-P MNA Dr Fouzia Hameed announced the same.On March 29, MQM-P’s federal legislator Dr Fauzia switched loyalties and announced on Thursday to join the Mustafa Kamal-led Pakistan Sarzameen Party at the party’s central office, Pakistan House.

Two former members of the MQM-P announced their joining in the Kamal-led party.

Naheed Begum who is a member of the provincial assembly (MPA) of Sindh from the constituency PSW-153 and Naila Munir, an MPA on a reserved seat for women RSW-155, announced they were joining Kamal’s party during a press conference held in Karachi.
