KARACHI: Federal government has decided to hand over Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) another ministry in the centre amidst its ongoing tug of war with the opposition on approval of budget.
The decision was taken after Prime Minister on Tuesday held a meeting with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Federal Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem.
It was also decided in the meeting that mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad will be provided financial packages.
Prime Minister lauded MQM-P’s ‘positive role’ in strengthening the democratic process and said: “Karachi plays a very significant role in progress of the entire country, hence, it cannot be subjected to reluctance”.
Premier formed a committee comprising the Federal Law Minister and Sindh Governor, tasking them to implement the decisions.
Currently, MQM-P has two federal ministries — law and information technology.
