Musharraf Announces 23-Party Pakistan Awami Ittehad

Islamabad (November 10, 2017): After Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) restoration announcement  former President Pervez Musharraf has announced a 23-party new grand political alliance- Pakistan Awami Ittehad (PAI) today.

The decision was taken in a 23-member parties meeting, which was held in Islamabad.

Former President Musharrafn will lead the alliance, while Iqbal Dar has been appointed Secretary General. The central office of the alliance will be established in Islamabad.

Pervez Musharraf, who attended the meeting through video link from Dubai, invited the Muhajirs to become part of new alliance and leave ethnic politics to join them in national politics.

He termed the MQM Pakistan and Pakistan Sarzameen Party (PSP) alliance as unnatural and suggested that all Muhajirs should set up new party as the names of MQM and Muhajirs have become infamous.

“I am concerned about [the internal problems] of the party; however, I have no interest in replacing Farooq Sattar or Mustafa Kamal even if their parties are united,” he insisted.

“It is right time for Muhajir community to call themselves Pakistani and should unite under one umbrella,” he advised. Musharraf has also invited all the Leagues to come under the new alliance.

The former president further added that the Army and the Supreme Court should only be concerned about Pakistan.

The Pakistan Awami Ittehad was formed on Friday under the leadership of former president and army chief Pervez Musharraf.

Musharraf said the PML-N and the PPP are destroying the country and the people should be rid of such forces. He added that the PPP has been finished in the province of Punjab.The former president said that support should be mobilised in the rural areas of Sindh in order to defeat the PPP in the province.

He also expressed hope that Pervez Elahi would become part of the alliance, saying the PML-Q leader has always supported him.

The former president also advised Pakistan Tehhreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan to “join hands with a group that would take Pakistan forward” while accusing him of only thinking about his own party (PTI).

Speaking in regards to Nawaz Sharif, Musharraf said the political future of the ousted premier is over and added that a new political force should come to the forefront in Pakistan.

Referring to the MQM-P, he expressed concern at the state of affairs of the party but said he is not a fool to become the leader of half a party.The former president said the alliance between MQM-P and PSP was unnatural and that his vision is to see the Muhajir community united under one name.

He said the name MQM has been tarnished and they too should join Pakistan Awami Ittehad, advising the party and its workers to stop calling themselves Muhajirs and refer to themselves only as Pakistanis.

Musharraf, who left for Dubai in March 2016, claimed that he was ready to come back to the country and face the cases registered against him.The former president and army chief also expressed concern at present situation of the country, saying he does not want to create more confusion with regards to the upcoming elections.

Earlier a day ago, the former President and head of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML)  Pervez Musharraf hailed Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Sirzameen Party (PSP) alliance and termed it welcome step in Karachi politics and vowed that his party will form grand alliance in Sindh.

In his reaction over the alliance of MQM-P and PSP, Pervez Musharraf said that he was glad to see unity of Muhajir nation in shape of MQM and PSP alliance, however they should move forward to promote the ideology of Pakistan first.
