Islamabad Barricaded Ahead of Protest Demo Today

Islamabad (Sep 8, 2017): Stringent security measures are put in place ahead of the protest march in front of Myanmar embassy today.

The federal capital’s administration has blocked entry and exit routes to the Red Zone, which houses the diplomatic enclave ahead of the march on the Myanmar Embassy by the religious parties, lawyers, and members of the civil society to protest the systematic killings of Muslims by the Myanmar army in league with the Buddhist monks.

It may be mentioned here that chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq had demanded the expulsion of the Myanmar ambassador by today failing which a protest demonstration would be staged in front of the Myanmar Embassy.

Many other religious and civil society outfits had also announced staging protest demonstrations today against the massacre of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

According to details, over 7,000 security personnel will also be deputed to stop the protesters entering the Red Zone.It may be mentioned here that religious parties, lawyers, and members of the civil society announced to take out the protest rally from Aabpara. The marchers plan to go to the Myanmar embassy to register their protest.Stringent security measures are in place ahead of today’s protest march. The security of diplomatic enclave has been handed over to the paramilitary Rangers. The army contingents would also be on alert to tackle any emergency situation.

According to sources heavy contingents of police will be deputed at major roads and boulevards including Serena Chowk, Nadra Chowk, Ayub Chowk, and Express Chowk. Traffic Police has issued alternate traffic diverging plan.According to Traffic Police China Chowk and Shaheed-e-Millat Road will also remain closed for traffic while Kashmir Highway going connecting Kashmir Chowk to Dhokari Chowk will be closed at both ends.

The spokesman of Traffic Police advised the drivers proceeding to Red Zone to use Seventh Avenue, Margalla Road, and Faisal Avenue and those going to Peshawar to use IJP Road and 9th Avenue Road.
