NAB Approves Four References Against Sharif Family, Dar

Islamabad (September 7, 2017):The Executive Board meeting of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday approved references to be filed against Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to the details, National Accountability Bureau has approved filing of four references against the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz, Capt Retd Safdar and finance minister Ishaq Dar in Panama papers case,  however, sources said that the Hudaibia Paper Mills case has been kept pending as the bureau has sought legal assistance in the matter.

The meeting was chaired by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry. According to details, the references will be filed in accountability courts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi tomorrow (Friday).

NAB said in its declaration that the Executive Board meeting has given go ahead filing of reference against Sharif family and finance minister Ishaq Dar.The NAB Rawalpindi has briefed the meeting regarding the two references against Nawaz Sharif, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and captain retired Safdar. The head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia will appear before NAB as prosecution witness.

The team of NAB, Lahore has also prepared the reference against the Nawaz Sharif, his children and finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The prosecution wing of the graft watchdog NAB will file all the four reference in Rawalpindi and Islamabad courts on Friday, September 8.According to NAB the references have been prepared keeping in view the details gathered by the JIT report and NAB investigations in this connection.

The references against Sharif family are based on JIT finding that their incomes are more than their means of sources, London flats, Flag ship investment, 15 offshore companies including Azizia Steel Mill  and Hill Mattel. The reference against Ishaq Dar based on its income, heirs and assets more than its known means of sources.NAB executive board meeting has left the issues of placing the names of Sharif family and Ishaq Dar on Exit Control List (ECL) and freezing of their account on trial court.

In its judgement in the Panama Papers case on July 28, the Supreme Court had ordered NAB to file references against Nawaz Sharif, his children Hussain, Hasan and Maryam, son-in-law MNA Capt (r) Safdar and Ishaq Dar. The accountability bureau was given six weeks, from the date of the court’s order, to file the references in accountability courts.
