KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday raided the official warehouses of wheat after It was reported that the wheat worth Rs 1.20 billion is missing from the official godowns.
As per details, on the directions of Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, Sukkur region team of the anti-graft body conducted a raid on official warehouses in Kandhkot & Kashmore district. The NAB’s Sukkur region team was accompanied by a magistrate.
However, it was revealed during the raid that the wheat worth Rs1.2 billion was missing from the bags and those bags were filled with sand.
It was also revealed during the raid that according to DFC record there should be two lac 12 thousand wheat bags were kept in the warehouses but upon counting it was revealed that there were just 20 to 25 thousands wheat bags were there.
The NAB, however, immediately sealed the warehouses and started a probe into the matter.
It is pertinent to mention here that DG NAB received complaints in an open meeting at Kandhkot and Kashmore district that food authorities have sold the government’s wheat in the market and embezzled the amount.
