NAB Orders Probe Against NS, Abbasi in LNG Terminal Case

Islamabad (June 06, 2018): The cases one after another are gripping the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has given green signal to probe against him and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in complaints of illegal use of powers.

The approval was given in an executive board meeting of the anti-graft watchdog presided over by the chairman justice retired Javed Iqbal on Wednesday.

The spokesperson NAB informed that both the former prime ministers are also facing the charges of billion of rupees corruption and losses to the national exchequer.

“Both have also been facing charges of handing over the contract of Light Natural Gas (LNG) terminal for 15 years to a favourite company in violation of rules and by misuse of their powers,” the spokesperson said.The accountability bureau also approved probe against former Sindh chief minister, former secretary, officers of the Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Department and others over allegations of misuse of authority. The aforementioned are accused of malpractice by violating the code of conduct to issue contracts during Sindh Cultural Festival in 2014, which allegedly caused losses of Rs127 million to the national exchequer.

An investigation was also approved against former Punjab chief minister, concerned secretaries, a former MPA from Chiniot and the management of Ramzan Sugar Mills Chiniot over alleged misuse of authority.Executive Board Meeting of the NAB also approved to launch corruption reference against former Chairman Karachi Port Trust retired Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat, and former General Manager KPT retired Brigadier Syed Jamshed Zaidi.

Addressing the meeting, NAB Chairman said corruption is a cancer that needs to be rooted out from the country. He directed to make scrutiny, inquiries and investigations of all complaints to their logical conclusion on the basis of law, merit, transparency and solid evidence.
