NAB Reference Against Dar: AC to Resume Hearing Today  

Islamabad (October 4, 2017) The accountability court will resume hearing of reference against finance minister Ishaq Dar  pertaining to ownership of “assets beyond his known sources of income” today.

The accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir will hear the case. According to details two prosecution witness- manager accounts Ishtiaq Ali and senior vice president Tariq Javed of private banks- will record their statements.

Court has already been issued them notice for appearance before court for October 4.

Earlier, today the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed petitions filed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar yesterday challenging his ‘swift indictment’ by an accountability court in a reference pertaining to ownership of “assets beyond his known sources of income”.

The petitions submitted by Dar’s counsel, Khawaja Harris, maintained that the accountability court had not granted him a minimum period of seven days to peruse the material that the accountability court had handed him two days before his indictment.

Dismissing Dar’s petitions, a two-judge bench ─ consisting of Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb ─ said that the accountability court is an independent forum and maintained that Dar’s indictment could not be challenged.

On September 29, National Accountability Bureau has filed a list comprising of 28 witnesses in accountability court who would testify against finance minister Ishaq Dar in case over alleged assets beyond means, who have received the summon for the appearance before the court on October 4.

Wajid Zia, additional director general of the Federal Investigation Agency who led the Joint Investigation Team proceedings against Nawaz Sharif’s family earlier this year is among the witnesses.
