Naqeeb Murder Case: Rao, Others Appear Before ATC

Karachi (October 11, 2018): An anti-terrorism court on Thursday heard Naqebullah Murder Case.

As the hearing went underway, former Malir SSP Rao Anwar along with others accused of the extrajudicial murder of Naqeebullah appeared before the court. SSP Dr Rizwan was also in court for the hearing.

The IO submitted a report to the court, which apprised the judge that efforts to arrest the absconding suspects are under way. The report said the suspects will be apprehended soon.

Rejecting the report presented by Dr Rizwan, the judge gave a final chance to the IO to submit a report on the absconding suspect.

The hearing was then adjourned till October 31.

Earlier on October 08, Sindh High Court heard plea to shift Naqeebullah Murder Case to another court.

Investigation Officer of the case informed the court that former SSP Malir, Rao Anwar had changed his residence, he is not even receiving court’s summons.

Rao Anwar had shifted to an unknown place from Malir Cant, IO told the court.

Earlier on, father of Naqeebullah Mehsud filed a plea to transfer case of the extrajudicial killing of his son by former SSP Rao Anwar after showing no confidence over judge of Anti-Terrorism Court.

Hearing of the plea against bail of Rao Anwar was held at the ATC.

Father of Naqeebullah by expressing dissatisfaction over judge of ATC said that from the very first day our pleas have not been heard in the case.

Earlier on July 20, an anti-terrorism court-approved former SSP Malir Rao Anwar’s bail plea in a case involving possession of explosives and illegal weapons.

The ATC announced its reserved verdict, which was reserved on July  17.

The court ordered Anwar to submit surety bonds worth Rs1 million.

Earlier on July 10, An anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted bail to former SSP Malir Rao Anwar in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

The former SSP Malir was directed to pay Rs1 million in bail bonds.

The verdict was reserved by the anti-terrorism court on Thursday(July 05).

Background Of The Case:

On January 18, Anwar had declared Naqeebullah a terrorist after news of the fake encounter aired on television.

A case of the incident was filed on January 19, while Anwar was suspended from duty the next day.The Supreme Court had ordered Anwar to appear on January 27, but the suspended SSP remained on the run for at least two months.Cases have been filed against 24 accused in the murder case of Naqeebullah. Out of the count, 11 have been arrested while 13 others are absconding.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed under the directives of the Supreme Court found the suspended Malir SSP responsible for the killing of Mehsud and three others in an alleged encounter in Karachi.

The use of geo-fencing technology has established Anwar’s presence at the time of the incident.He was also present with Naqeebullah when the youth was arrested, and where he was kept in captivity, sources close to the JIT have revealed.
