Nations Around the Globe Observing International Justice Day

ISLAMABAD: Nation around the globe including Pakistan are observing International Justice Day today (July 17) to recognise the strengthening system of international justice.

World Day for International Justice unites all those who wish to support justice, promote rights of the victims, also help in preventing crime that threaten peace, security and well-being of the world.

17 July is celebrated as World Day for International Justice because this day is the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998. With the help of this treaty, the International Criminal Court (ICC) was established.

On 1 June, 2010, the Review Conference of the Rome Statute which was held in Kampala (Uganda) and the Assembly of the State Parties decided to celebrate 17 July as the International Criminal Justice Day on 17 July.

In 1998 since that day, 139 countries have signed the Court’s treaty and nearly 80 States, representative of every region of the world, have ratified it.

This day is celebrated because it is necessary to make people aware and united to support justice and also to promote the rights of the victims.

International Justice day also attracts people around the world to pay attention on the serious issues.

It also to protect people from several crimes and also warn those people who affect the peace, security and well being of the nation at risk.
