NATO Expresses Concern Over Deployment of US Aircraft Carrier Across Mideast

Washington: North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday expressed concern over the deployment of US aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

“We’re all of course concerned because conflict or situations that evolve in that region will have implications for all NATO allies,” Jens Stoltenberg said.

The US military has deployed forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to the Middle East in a move US officials said was to counter “clear indications” of threats from Iran to its troops in the region.

On the other hand, the United States’s military presence in the Gulf used to be a serious threat but now represented a “target” and “opportunity”, a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander said.
