Nawaz Sharif Criticizes NAB, Calls for Its Abolition

Islamabad(May 10, 2018): PML-N Supremo and Former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has said that the time has come to decide whether laws formed by democrats will be followed in country or of dictators.

Talking to the newsmen outside the accountability court, after reaching the court to appear in Al Azizia Steel Mills Reference, Nawaz Sharif said that NAB was formed by General Musharraf for his personal interests, this law should be abolished, added the former PM.

Former PM further criticizing NAB said that the intuition is crossing its limits, he appreciated what Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said in Parliament yesterday about the NAB Chairman.Nawaz Sharif talking about suspension of Ishaq Dar’s Senate Membership said that judgments are been given above the law.

Replying to a question asked, Former PM said that deadline of the trial will keep extending until they find any proof.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi  addressing in National Assembly said a parliamentary committee should be constituted to investigate the allegations of laundering 4.9bln Dollars to India levelled by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also urged the opposition to consider bringing amendments to the Accountability Law. He said the political parties had already agreed to these amendments and further debate or a meeting will be held to move forward the process.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the institution of NAB was established by a military dictator to change the loyalties of members and break up the political parties.He regretted that the political parties failed to make the NAB such an institution which fulfills the requirements of justice and play its due role against corruption.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that several NAB cases are being heard against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but he does not expect justice being delivered in the cases.

He noted that justice must not only be done but it must also be seen to be done.

The Prime Minister said that the allegations levelled against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also amount to pre-poll rigging.

It may be recalled that yesterday, National Accountability Bureau ordered an inquiry against former Premier, Nawaz Sharif and others for allegedly laundering $4.9 billion to India.

According to statement issued by NAB, Chairman Justice Retired Javed Iqbal has taken notice of media report about money laundering of $4.9 to India.

According to the media report, this incident is mentioned in the World Bank’s Migration and Remittance Book 2016.

The statement claims that the amount was laundered to the Indian Finance Ministry after which Indian foreign exchange reserves witnessed an increase.
