Nawaz Sharif Fulfilling Promise He Made with Nation: Marriyum

Islamabad (November 22, 2017): Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday said that questions regarding why former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is appearing in the court are being asked.

Talking to media at judicial complex, Marriyum added opponents were saying that Nawaz Sharif has run away from the cases but he is fulfilling the promise he made with the nation.

No corruption reference against Nawaz Sharif, she asserted.

The minister said that the former premier is being appeared before the court in fake cases.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and senator Asif Kirmani said those demanding to minus Nawaz Sharif are now standing nowhere.

Nawaz Sharif is attending the judicial proceedings despite exemption, he continued.Earlier, Accountability court has resumed hearing against the Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Mayram Nawaz and son-in-law Captain(R) Safdar today, who have appeared before the court in connection with the three corruption references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the directives of Supreme Court.

A number of senior PML-N leaders were present at the court to welcome Sharif at the court.

Earlier, Nawaz sharif arrived at Benazir Bhutto International Airport around 8:30 and left for the accountability court amid strict security.

Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir had last week granted Sharif a seven-day exemption from personal appearance, while his daughter Maryam was exempted for a month. However, the duo has appeared before the court today due to a change in their plans.

The exemption was gran­ted on the grounds that both wanted to see the ailing Kulsoom Nawaz, who is undergoing treatment in the UK, as well as security reasons.

At the last hearing, NAB prosecution presented its first two witnesses in court ─ Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Joint Registrar Sidra Mansoor and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Inland Revenue Department representative, Jahangir Ahmad ─ both of whom recorded their statements in the references against the Sharif family.Earlier, an accountability court on October 19 indicted ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif in two reference related to Flagship Investments and other offshore companies. While he was indicted in another reference on October 20.

On November 8, the accountability court hearing corruption reference against Sharif family had rejected Nawaz Sharif application pleading the court to club together all the three references against him and hold a single trial.

NAB had filed the three references against Nawaz and his family members and one against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan in the Panama Case verdict on July 28, 2017.

After the hearing, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hold meetings with senior leadership of his party after the hearing in Islamabad, said the sources.NAB References
A five-member bench of the Supreme Court on July 28 had directed NAB to file references against Nawaz and his children in six weeks in the accountability court and directed the trial court to decide the references within six months.

The Supreme Court also assigned Justice Ijazul Ahsan a supervisory role to monitor the progress of the accountability court proceedings.

NAB had filed three references on Sept 8 against Sharif and his family, and another reference against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The three references against the Sharif family are related to the Flagship Investment Ltd, the Avenfield (London) properties and Jeddah-based Al-Azizia Company and Hill Metal Establishment.

The former premier and his sons, Hassan and Hussain, have been named in all three NAB references, while Maryam and husband Safdar have been named only in the Avenfield reference.
