LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been released from Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore hours after Supreme Court granted six weeks bail on medical grounds.
Soon after the release, the former premier arrived at his Jati Umra residence where PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif along with senior party leaders welcomed Nawaz.
Her daughter Maryam Nawaz took to Twitter and thanked Allah Almighty and the supporters of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz for all their support.
Maryam says, “Want to take this opportunity to thank Allah and then every PMLN supporter. You guys were instrumental in keeping my spirits and hopes high.”
Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday granted bail to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for six weeks which was filed on medical-grounds in the infamous Al-Azizia corruption reference.
According to the four-page verdict, Nawaz Sharif was not permitted to travel outside the country. “The former PM will be taken into custody if he doesn’t surrender himself to police after six weeks,” it added.
It was further stated in the detailed verdict the court will be the only authority to decide about the arrest of the former PM after bail period expires.
SC mentioned that the medical history of the Nawaz suggests multiple ailments including the ones related to cardiac complications.
The Former PM’s request for the specified bail period for medical treatment was acceptable, the court said.
