Nawaz Sharif To Meet FATA Senators on March 10

Islamabad (March 08, 2018): The eight senate seats from FATA have become vital for both ruling party PML-N and opposition as both claiming to have majority in Senate, however former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has invited FATA senator to discuss the issue regarding chairman Senate and Deputy chairman, which will be held on March 12.

The FATA Senator will meet Nawaz Sharif on March 10, Saturday.

The invitation is the part of what ruling party wanted to get elect its chairman aimed to make changes in constitution regarding political parties act and some other issues.

Earlier today, the ruling party PML-N claimed to have required number of votes for Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots and they firmly believe that its candidate will be successful.

The former PM Chaired the party huddle, in which four member committee submitted report on senate elections. The report revealed that most of the parties backed the Nawaz Sharif suggestion and they assured their full support in Chairman and deputy chairman election. Committee claimed with the support of other political parties N-League can easily elect its candidate.

In the light of the report, meeting has decided to select name for Senate chairman from PML-N and deputy chairman from allied parties, however the names have not been finalized yet.It is pertinent to say that a day earlier Nawaz Sharif offered PPP to bring Raza Rabbani as joint chairman Senate candidate, however Zardari turned down his offer.

Talking to media outside Moulana Fazal Rehman Residence in Minister’s Enclave, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman said he doesn’t want party leader Raza Rabbani to become Senate chairman while responding to a question regarding the offer made by Nawaz Sharif to back Rabbani for the position.

Zardari responded: “Thank you very much, I do not want that.”

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is divided over the party’s nominee for the post of Senate chairman.

According to reports, several party stalwarts have expressed their reservations over not naming Raza Rabbani as the nominee. There has also been resistance to naming Saleem Mandviwalla as the party’s nominee for the post.Sources add that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) have also backed Rabbani for the Senate chairman post.

Meanwhile, the PML-N has claimed that the party has a majority in the Senate to appoint the chairman and deputy chairman. The party has, however, not announced any nominees for the post.

PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif appearing before the accountability court reiterated that he personally wanted Rabbani as the next Senate chairman.
