Islamabad: Nawaz Sharif Reaches Accountability Court

Islamabad (October 2, 2017):Disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif has reached the Accountability Court which is hearing three corruption references filed against him and his family members by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Nawaz who had reached Islamabad from Lahore last night left Punjab House for the court a little while ago amidst stringent security arrangements are in place. A total of 1,924 personnel are being deputed on security duty that include 1,424 policemen; 300 FC personnel, and 200 paramilitary Rangers.

Nawaz is appearing before the Accountability Court which is hearing three corruption references filed against him and his family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The accountability court had summoned Sharif, his children Maryam Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, and son-in-law retired Captain Mohammad Safdar today in references pertaining to Avenfield apartments, Azizia Steel Mills and offshore companies filed against them by the National Accountability Bureau.

Nawaz Sharif is expected to be indicted by the court headed by Muhammad Bashir today.

The judgment over Nawaz’s plea for granting him exemption from appearing in the court personally will also be announced by the court today.

Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Minister of State for Interior were stopped from entering the court while Talal Chaudhary, Pervez Rasheed and many other leaders of ruling PMLN have also reached the court. Senator Asif Kirmani and Minister Railways Saad Rafique are also present outside the court. Nawaz Sharif’s personal security staff was also stopped outside the courtyard.

PMLN Senator Raja Zafarul Haq were stopped at the gate of the Judicial Complex where the court is located where the proceedings against the disqualified prime minister are underway.

No unconcerned person is allowed to enter the Judicial Complex while the media is also not allowed to enter the premises.

 

On September 26, Nawaz had appeared before the accountability court in connection with three corruption references filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Supreme Court’s directions. He was accompanied by his counsel Khwaja Harris, who will plead his case before the court.

Nawaz Sharif was provided with copies of references against him.
