NEPRA Increases Electricity Tariff By Rs 1.16 Per Unit

Islamabad (September 26, 2018): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved an increase of Rs1.16 per unit in electricity prices on Wednesday.

The increase was approved on a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) under fuel adjustment for August. The CPPA had initially requested a Rs1.50 increase in electricity prices.

The price increase will be applicable to all power distribution companies except for K-Electric.

Earlier on September 25, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) deferred hike in the power tariff till next meeting, which is likely to be held next week.

As per details garnered, ECC will now mull over hiking tariff in the next huddle schedule to take place in Islamabad next week. Finance minister Asad Umar will chair the session of ECC.

It was expected to allow an increase of Rs 1.50 to Rs 2 per unit in electricity tariff of power Distribution Companies.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) suggested increasing power prices by Rs3.75 per unit. Whereas the PTI government is looking to increase electricity tariff by an average of Rs2 per unit, said sources.
