New Year Celebrations Kick-Off In New Zealand

Wellington (December 31, 2017):New Zealanders have welcomed in 2018 with an amazing firework display from Auckland’s Sky Tower.

As one of the first countries to welcome the new year, thousands of cheering revellers rang in the New Year today as multi-coloured fireworks exploded across the city skyline at midnight.

SkyCity – a casino and event centre in Auckland – was again the epicentre of the country’s celebrations with a dramatic fireworks display.

A giant digital clock on the tower was counting down to the party before the skyline exploded into an amazing flash of colour.

Samoa was the first country in the world to welcome in 2018 an hour earlier.

Over 24 hours, cities across the world will gradually sign off on 2017 and welcome the new year, starting in the Pacific, heading across Asia, then Europe and finally the Americas.

The big displays to look out for include London and Dubai’s bumper illuminations.
