Nishwa’s Father, Darul Sehat Hospital Admin Reach Settlement

KARACHI: A settlement has been made between the administration of Darul Sehat hospital and Nishawa’s father – a nine-month-old girl who died last month after being administered the wrong injection.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC), Qaiser Ali said a three-point agreement has been made with hospital administration.

As per the agreement, the hospital administration will set aside Rs5 million annually in the “Nashwa Trust.” Darul Sehat will provide scholarship to two children every year on the recommendation of the Nishwa Trust.

The agreement says that a hospital ward will be named after baby Nishwa and hospital management will accept their mistake before media.

Nine-month-old Nishwa died on April 22, around two weeks after she was administered a wrong injection at the Darul Sehat Hospital.

A first information report registered by her father, Qaiser Ali, stated that he had taken his daughter to the Darul Sehat Hospital for treatment of diarrhea. He claimed the infant was given an excessive injection, which paralysed her and caused her death.

Earlier on May, 15 the medical board formed to look into the causes of Nishwa’s death had announced that an infant who died in Karachi last month, was administered the wrong injection.

The board was formed on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and included Professor Farhat Mirza, Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Abbasi and Dr Samia Tariq.

It said the toddler was administered the wrong injection, after which all her vitals stopped functioning. The report, based on chemical examination and histopathology test, comprises of three pages.
