Tension Persists Between Pak-Afghan Relations

Islamabad (June 09, 2018): Pak Afghan confidence building measures failed as recent visit of afghan delegation to Pakistan could not make any breakthrough.

According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan and Afghanistan have tried six times under the banner of action plan but could not get tangible outcome.

Both the neighboring countries have been exchanging the lists of wanted people several times.  Pakistan handed over a list of 27 names to afghan authorities but they did not cooperate on it.Taliban Leadership particularly Mullah Fazull-ullah is attacking on Pakistan from across the border, though Pakistan has been repeatedly demanding from Afghanistan to take action against those forces but Afghan government neither took action against them nor offered cooperation in this regard.

Meanwhile, the United Stated has called for cooperation from Pakistan to facilitate peace talks and assistance in peace process in Afghanistan.

This was stated by the Deputy Assistant to the US president and Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council, Lisa Curtis in her keynote address to ‘The Long Search for Peace in Afghanistan’ organized by the US Institute of Peace in Washington.She said the US has also sought to understand Islamabad’s core security concerns.

White House official said regional engagement is central to America’s efforts in Afghanistan.
