North Korea Test Fires Land to Ship Missiles

Web Desk (June 8, 2017): North Korea has fired several land-to-ship missiles, says South Korea’s military.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the projectiles were fired off North Korea’s east coastal town of Wonsan on Thursday morning local time (Wednesday morning GMT).

The statement added that the projectiles likely flew about 200 kilometers (about 125 miles).

Analysts say each launch, successful or not, improves missile technology and ultimately provides information that helps bring North Korea closer to its goal of building a missile that could reach the US.

The launch comes one day after Moon’s government suspended the deployment of a controversial US missile defense system which had strained relations with China and angered North Korea.
