North Korea Warns Sanctions Will Speed up N Plans

Pyongyang (September 19, 2017): North Korea has warned spurring its nuclear program if more UN-backed sanctions and pressure is exerted on it.

A strong worded statement issued by the North Korean foreign ministry yesterday called  the new set of UN sanctions as “the most vicious, unethical and inhumane act of hostility”.

The statement released through country’s KCNA news agency, said: “The increased moves of the US and its vassal forces to impose sanctions and pressure on the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] will only increase our pace towards the ultimate completion of the state nuclear force.”

The sanctions came after US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping committed to “maximising pressure” on North Korea through vigorous enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions.

The UN Security Council of which China is a member has voted unanimously on two separate occasions in recent weeks to tighten sanctions on North Korea over its weapons testing.

North Korea fired its latest missile over Japan on September 15 after a fresh round of UN sanctions approved on September 11. It traveled 2,299 miles, putting the US Pacific territory of Guam, which North Korea has said it plans to target, within reach.
