Not Necessary To Be Captain In Order To Assist Your Team: Malik

DUBAI: Senior International player Shoaib Malik on Friday stated that a veteran player does not need the label of a ‘captain’ in order to help the team.

In an interview in Dubai, Shoaib Malik talked regarding the responsibility of a senior player when he is part of the team squad and his selection as skipper of the team for T20I series against Proteas after non-availability of Sarfraz Ahmed.

When asked regarding views of team players over back to back International tours of the squad and over PSL, Shoaib said that all players are excited for the Pakistan Super League, although consecutive overseas tours have made it difficult for him to deal with affairs back home.

“Big names around the globe are becoming part of Pakistan Super League. The tournament is a great event for all players as it’s getting improved every year. Things are proceeding very well step-by-step which an excellent sign for Pakistan cricket team”, said Shoaib.

The senior all-rounder also expressed his thoughts over the selection of Sarfraz Ahmed as captain of Pakistan team in World Cup 2019.

Malik claimed that Sarfraz was the best choice for the purpose. He added that he has no desires to lead the team in future as he assists the youngsters just by being a senior member of the side.

“Media and other sports experts now need to back Sarfraz Ahmed and team. Despite facing defeat in all three formats, players gave it all on tour of South Africa. I am hopeful that all youngsters will deliver top performances in the World Cup”, concluded the veteran cricketer.
