Not Working On Any Political Agenda: Caretaker CM Punjab

Lahore (June 09, 2018): Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Dr Hasan Askari on Saturday said that his top priority was to conduct free and fair elections.

According to the details, caretaker CM Punjab, Dr Hasan Askari while talking to the newsmen after visiting the national poet Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum in Lahore today stressed that interim governments must provide equal opportunities to all parties, “Aliens” is a politically motivated term, added the caretaker CM.

“It is the responsibility of the interim governments to facilitate the election process,” he said.

Speaking about objections to his appointment as the caretaker chief minister, Askari said that the reservations will be addressed through the performance of the interim government.

Answering a question about the interim Punjab cabinet, Askari announced that he will have a ‘small and unbiased’ cabinet. Hassan Askari Rizvi Takes Oath As Caretaker CM PunjabYesterday, Hassan Askari Rizvi had taken oath as Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab in a ceremeony held in Governor House.

Governor Punjab Rafiq Ahmed Rajwana administered his oath. A large number of dignitaries attended the ceremony.

Earlier, PML-N rejected selection of Prof. Hasan Askari as caretaker Chief Minister Punjab by Election Commission of Pakistan, saying he is not a neutral person, however Election Commission of Pakistan rejected Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s reservations regarding pre-poll rigging and said that the decision to name Dr Hasan Askari was unanimous.ECP also rejected PML-N’s demand to review the appointment of Hassan Askari.

Inside-aware further revealed that ECP makes decision purely on merit and does not take dictation from anyone. While expressing exasperation over PML-N’s objections, officials of elections watchdog urged politicians not to lambaste department unnecessarily.The officials went on to say that ECP had made decision after political outfits failed to reach on consensus pertaining to appointments of caretaker chief ministers.

Earlier, on Thursday afternoon, talking to media in Lahore, PML-N Leaders including Former PM, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafiq and others said that ECP selected Interm CM Hasan Askari is PTI supporter.

Leaders of PML-N appealed to ECP to reconsider its decision of nominating Hasan Askari as caretaker CM Punjab.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Askari was an ardent critic of the PML-N. He said Askari’s partiality was evident in the views he expressed in his articles and news programmes.

He said appointment of Hasan Askari as caretaker Chief Minister Punjab will make the electoral process doubtful.“ECP’s decision has cast doubt over transparency in the upcoming general polls in Punjab. The PML-N will reject the election results if he is made caretaker chief executive of the province.”

Therefore, the Election Commission should review its decision and name a neutral person for the slot. He said the parliamentary committee of PML-N had proposed names of neutral persons.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said elections should not only be transparent, but these should also be seen to be transparent.Flanked by Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Khurram Dastgir, Rana Sanaullah among others, Abbasi presented an article titled “Election challenges and disputes in democracy” written by Askari in January 2013. “He has justified 90-day martial law in his paper,” said the former premier.

Speaking on the occasion, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said if elections become controversial, a crisis will emerge in the country.He said PML-N will not let anyone hijack its mandate.

Khawaja Saad Rafique said Prof. Hasan Askari himself should withdraw from the responsibility because he is a controversial person.
