NZ Women to Wear Hijab on Friday to Support Muslim Community

CHRISTCHURCH: In another sign of solidarity with the Muslim community, a ‘National Scarf Day’ will be held this Friday (22nd March), during which women across New Zealand will don the hijab to show support for the community affected by the recent tragedy in Christchurch.

Anna Thomas, one of the organisers of the event – titled ‘Scarves in Solidarity’ – said that the event was to show Muslims in New Zealand they are not alone”.

She urged women of all religions and races to come together on Friday to show that there is no room for racial abuse against women who wear the hijab.

The terrorist attack in Christchurch, which claimed the lives of more than 50 people, shocked the world on Friday (Mar 15).
