Obama vetoes bill to let 9/11 families sue Saudi Arabia

WASHINGTON: United States President Brack Hussain Obama vetoed the Congress bill allowing the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.

Obama was of the view that the bill was useless to eliminate terrorism and added that it could not guard the Americans.

While Senator Charles Schumer, who tabled the bill in the Congress, said that they had enough votes to override the veto next week.

According to US TV, Barack Obama said that the bill against Saudi Arabia could not support to eliminate terrorism. He said the bill could not protect US citizens from terror attacks.

Obama said that the bill was against the interest of US, so he vetoed the bill. US Congress passed a bill in the current week allowing the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia and forwarded it to the premier. While White House had announced that Obama will veto the bill. Congress was of the view that Saudi officials were on the back of 9/11 assailants, hence the Saudi government pay compensation money to the victims’ families.

Charles Schumer expressed disappointment over the Obama’s stance and hopped that the Congress will override the veto next week.
