According to the details one person was killed amid violent clashes between white nationalists attending a far-right march and protesters in the US state of Virginia.

It is not clear if the death came when a car rammed a crowd of opponents of the far-right rally, injuring several.

The “Unite the Right” march was called to protest against plans to remove a statue of a Civil War general. A state of emergency has been declared in Virginia. US President Donald Trump said, “The hate and the division must stop right now.”

“We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation,” he told reporters, speaking in New Jersey, where he is on a working holiday.

Earlier, police fired tear gas against demonstrators and said that arrests had been made after a declaration of unlawful assembly at Emancipation Park.

The state of emergency allows local authorities to request additional resources if needed, the police department said.

President Donald Trump told reporters, “We are closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. It has been going on for a long time in our country — not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America.”
