Only State has Right to Declare Jihad: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad (October 06, 2017): Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday told National Assembly that a compensation package would be announced for the heirs of those killed in yesterday’s terror attack at Jhal Magsi in Balochistan.  

Speaking on the floor of National Assembly he strongly condemned the terror attack.

Earlier, the National Assembly session started with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the chair. At the very outset, Fateha was offered for those martyred in yesterday’s attack.

After that the Interior Minister told the house that the enemy was trying to create chaos in the country. He said that foreign funded elements were targeting soft targets in the country to create an environment of fear and panic amongst people.He said that Pakistan was committed to fighting against terrorism and Jhal Magsi like cowardly incidents cannot shake our resolve.

He said that in an Islamic republic only the state holds right to declare armed Jihad.

The minister said that only the state has the monopoly over use of force in an Islamic republic, and no citizen has the right to call for the killing of any citizen.“The jihad rulings against one another in cities and villages will make this country a war zone,” adding, “enemy wants Muslims to kill one another. I request religious political leaders, clergy to denounce the Fatwas on social media.”

Iqbal announced that government will take action against individuals involved in hate crimes under cyber crime laws.

He said that no one had the ight to raise questions over the faith of legislators who had signed on the declaration of Khatam-e-Nabuwwat on their oath.“No one has a franchise to judge anyone’s faith. The terror incidents remind us that we need unity in this country,” Iqbal said.

Speaking on a point of order, Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah demanded of the government to change Hajj Policy.

He added that the Hajj should not be based on draw, as many people are deprived to perform Hajj due to the draw system despite applying for several times.

Minister for Religious Affairs assure Opposition Leader to mull over the proposal, saying that the suggestion was good one.

MQM Fauzia Hameed raised the issue of knife attacks on women in Karachi. She said that police had failed completely in protesting the citizens. Following her speech, MQM members staged walkout from the house over the issue.The house also passed a motion for establishment of four standing committee on the house on Anti Notcotis, Postal Services, Privatizaion and Statistics.

Later Speaker adjourned the session to meet again on Monday evening.
