Operation Khyber-4 Has Been Completed Successfully: ISPR

Rawalpindi (August 21, 2017):  The Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the operation Khyber-4 has been completed successfully and required targets have been achieved.

According to the details, the Operation Khyber-4 that was launched on July 15 has been successfully completed today, the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations says on Monday.

Addressing media briefing at Rawalpindi DG ISPR announced that during the operation Khyber 4, 253 square km area has retrieved from terrorists.

“During the operation K-4,  52 terrorists killed, 31 injured , several ready to blast IDEs have found while hundreds mines defused . 91 check posts have been established in Rajgal valley,” DG ISPR said.

The DG ISPR said that 253 kilometers of land had been cleared from terrorists in the Khyber 4 Operation, in which 52 outlaws were killed, one arrested, 31 sustained injuries while four blew themselves.

Clearance operation was still continued in the Khyber Valley, he added, saying 91 checkposts had been setup in Rajgal area.

The security forces had seized a material being used in manufacturing the improvised explosive device (IED) bore a label of “Made in India”, he said.

Hundreds of landmines had been defused during the Operation Khyber-4, for which we had consulted with the Afghan security forces and also sought their cooperation.Overall 24,000 operations had so far been conducted across the country. Of them, 3300 were carried out under the Operation Raddul Fasaad. In Punjab, 1728 intelligence-based operations had been conducted.

Maj Gen Ghafoor denied presence of any terrorist network in the country.

The network that was involved in attacking a mosque in Rawalpindi in 2013 had also been busted; Maj Gen Ghafoor said and added the motive behind the assault was to fan sectarianism in the country.

Replying to a question he said that 95 per cent Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to their homes. He also mentioned that the terrorist network, who was involved in attack on a mosque in Rawalpindi in 2013, captured as the group is link with the same religious school of thoughts had the objective to lit up sectarianism clashes.

He rejected the Indian allegation that Pakistan had hoisted the national flag — the highest in South Asia — on the Wagah border to gather intelligence information.About former military dictator Gen (retd) Musharraf, the DG said that the former president issues political statements in the capacity of a politician.

He said that the Kashmir issue is in the United Nations, adding that India declares every movement launched in the occupied Kashmir.

Emphasising the significance of reforms in FATA, he said the Pak Army had already conveyed its recommendations on reforms to the government.

Answering over the military courts he said that the provincial governments sent cases to military courts and there was no difference between civil and military.

“The federal government has powers to make Dawn Leaks report public and now the ball is in government court,” Asif Ghafoor said.

Operation Raddul Fasaad is being continued across the country and several development has been made during the operation, ISPR said.Overall developments:

The army spokesman reiterated that no civil-military divide exists in the country and the Army is an organ of the state which is not involved in any political matters.“Difference of opinions can exist, but that does not mean there is a divide between the civil and military leadership.”

When asked about the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), DG ISPR said the army was not associated with any political matter.

He added that whatever political statements General (retd) Pervez Musharraf made were said by him as a politician.

Referring to Dawn Leaks, Ghafoor said the government has the prerogative to start an inquiry in whichever case it so wishes.

Operation Khyber-4 was launched earlier in August to stop infiltration of terrorists from across the Pak-Afghan border.
