Pak rupee appreciated against dollar after Customs’ crackdown on smuggling: Khokhar

KARACHI:  Pak rupee appreciated against US dollar after Pakistan Customs swing into action to implement State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) regulations and launched crackdown against currency smuggling.

Due to the crackdown at all airports of the country on currency smugglers, Pakistani rupee appreciated Re 1 against US dollar, said Chief Collector Customs Zahid Khokhar while addressing a press conference at Customs House along with Collector Preventive Saifuddin Junejo and Additional Collector Dr Nadeem.

Khokhar said that web-based system has been established at all airports to thwart any bid to smuggle currency outside the country. Through the system the frequent travelers and passengers’ languages were checked, he added.

Khokar said that now Pakistan Customs had nine to 10 sniffer dogs who have the capability to sniff currency and drugs. He added breeding of the dogs had been started in Pakistan.

He said that an ASO of Pakistan Customs intercepted a passenger at Moachko check post and recovered 11 kilogramme heroines worth Rs 110 million from the passenger, who was identified as Naeem.
