Pakistan Beat WI in 1st ODI

MULTAN: Pakistan beat West Indies by five wickets in the first One Day International in Multan to go one up in the three-match series.

Captain Babar Azam led from the front in a high run chase as he hammered 103 runs from 107 balls while Imam-ul-Haq and Muhammad Rizwan scored half centuries.

In the run chase, Fakhar Zaman fell early but Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq steadied the ship well adding 103 runs for the second wicket. Imam fell while going for needless reverse sweep for 65 before Muhammad Rizwan and Babar stitched another important stand.

Babar reached his century and Rizwan his fifty but the required rate continued to surge. Pakistan lost both Babar and Rizwan in quick succession but Khushdil, who is known for his six-hitting prowess, slammed three sixes in a row to settle the nerves.

Earlier, Opener Shai Hope defied Pakistan s much vaunted bowling attack and sweltering Multan heat to lift the West Indies to a solid 305-8 in the first day-night international on Wednesday.
