BEIJING: Pakistan and China on Sunday signed the ML-1 railways agreement under which a double track from Peshawar to Karachi will be laid.
The document was signed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and his counterpart Li Keqiang in Beijing.
On this occasion, Pakistan Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed, who is accompanying Premier Imran Khan said that the train will at least travel with a speed of 160km/hr on the new track.
He added that he himself signed on feasibility of the same project 13 years ago.
Earlier in the day, PM Imran Khan called on Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss affairs of mutual interests.
A Pakistani delegation led by country’s premier Imran Khan met with the Chinese President Xi Jinping in Great Hall.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is on its second official visit to China since assuming charge as the premier. He visited China to attend second Belt and Road Forum on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
