Pakistan, Iran To Continue Working For Regional Peace

Islamabad(July 17, 2018): President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday said Pakistan and Iran would continue efforts for dealing with cross-border challenges.

This he stated while talking to the Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of Iran Major General Muhammad Hossein Bagheri who called on him in Islamabad.

President emphasized that both the countries enjoy close, cordial and fraternal relations based on a shared faith, culture and history, defence cooperation between the two countries will further be strengthened, said, President.He underlined that objective of Gwadar Port project is to enhance connectivity between different countries of the region and this project will be beneficial for the whole region.

The President said as neighbors, both the countries are committed to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan as a stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of the region.

He underscored that Pakistan supports Afghan-owned, Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process.

Earlier, Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of Iran Major General Mohammad Bagheri also called on Foreign Minister Abdullah Hussain Haroon.Welcoming the Iranian Chief of Gener Staff, the Foreign Minister said bilateral relations continue to strengthen with regular exchange of visits at various levels during the past few years.

He appreciated the Iranian leadership’s strong and consistent support on the issue of Kashmir.

General Bagheri expressed the confidence that the upcoming elections would usher Pakistan into an era of continued growth under strong leadership.Iranian CGS Calls On COAS General Bajwa At GHQYesterday, the Iranian Chief of Staff (CGS) of the Armed Forces Major General Dr Mohammad Bagheri on Monday called on the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa at GHQ.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) matters of the mutual interest including regional security, defence cooperation and Pakistan-Iran border management were discussed in the meeting.The COAS also emphasised on the need to further enhance military to military cooperation between the two Armed Forces.

The COAS further added, that enhanced Pakistan-Iran cooperation will have a positive impact on peace and security in the region.The Iranian CGS also pledged to keep working for better relations between the two countries and also condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
