Trump Did Not Blame Pakistan for Failure in Afghanistan: US Envoy

Islamabad (August 31, 2017): The Us ambassador David Hale met with advisor to national security Nasir Janjua and categorically rejected the impression that US has held the Pakistan responsible of Afghanistan failure.

“Pakistan has played vital role to solve Afghanistan issue and US lauded the Pakistan efforts in this regard,” he said adding that joint efforts required to solve Afghan issue.

“The Pakistan role can’t be ignored in solving Afghan issue, however joint efforts needed to root out terrorism in the region,” he said.

Hale told Janjua, regarding India’s role in Afghanistan, that the US government is “aware of the feelings in Pakistan” regarding the role envisaged for India in the new strategy.

He said the Trump administration was “ready to play its role in reducing tensions between the two neighbours”, the NSA spokesperson said .

He further clarified that India’s role was envisaged for economic development in Afghanistan only.

NSA Janjua told Hale that Pakistan was taking its time to examine the US policy and considering its options. He added that Islamabad would like to receive further details from the US.

“This notwithstanding, President Trump’s address at Fort Myers was disappointing and had deeply hurt the feelings of the government and the people of Pakistan,” the NSA said, according to the handout.

He told Hale that Pakistan had been “wrongly blamed, threatened and negatively projected to the world, which was unacceptable”.

Both also discussed the US President Trump’s new South Asia policy and bilateral ties.
