Pakistan Supports All Peace Initiatives in Afghanistan: Asif

Baku (December 2, 2017): Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that Pakistan remain committed to support all peace initiatives in Afghanistan.

7th Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan titled “Security and Economic Connectivity towards a Strengthened Heart of Asia Region was held in Baku on Friday.

While addressing to the conference, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said the Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process is an effective platform for a meaningful dialogue.

He said peace and stability in Afghanistan are important for the region. Expressing concern about the terrorist attacks which the Afghanistan is exposed to, the Minister noted that Pakistan remains committed to support all initiatives to address this problem.

Khawaja Asif said the main issue is to strengthen control over uncontrolled areas which pose a threat to neighboring countries.

He said terrorist groups are a serious problem for regional countries. The Minister said that drug transportation from Afghanistan is the biggest problem hindering long-term peace. He said that political dialogue with Taliban will help fight Islamic State.

President of Afghanistan, Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Pakistan and Iran and Deputy Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan besides special representatives of Russia and China attended the conference.
