Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Facing Shared Challenges: Al-Jubeir

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir on Monday said that Islamabad and Riyadh were facing combined challenges.  Al-Jubeir in an interaction with Pakistani media made announcement for making more investments in Pakistan.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabian foreign ministers addressed a joint press conference in Islamabad during the visit of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

“Saudi Arabia gives high importance to relations with Pakistan and we wanted to see it as a stable country. Developed and stable Pakistan is in interest of both countries,” Al-Jubeir said.

The Saudi FM said that Riyadh was investing and cooperating with Islamabad in different sectors in order to stabilise bilateral ties on every level. He also announced to establish oil refinery in Gwadar with expenses of $10 billion.

Commenting over global challenges, Al-Jubeir said that terrorism has now turned into a global challenge and Saudi Arabia wanted to eliminate it across the world. He added that United States, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were making efforts to counter the challenge.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also addressed the joint press briefing along with his Saudi counterpart.

FM Qureshi said 10 joint working groups were formed between both countries. The working groups were tasked to meet in every three months while ministerial-level meetings will be held after every six months. He detailed that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to schedule meetings between central leadership every year.

He said that Saudi Arabia was investing $20 billion in Pakistan after signing 7 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) between both countries. Qureshi said that Saudi Arabia accepted Islamabad’s request for reduction in visa fees while Pakistan was focusing on to implement all agreements.
