Islamabad (March 24, 2018): Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to work together for regional peace and development.
The understanding came at a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and his Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena in Islamabad today.
The two sides discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations. The two sides also agreed to further bolster their trade relations. During the meeting, they also agreed to make the SAARC more effective.In his remarks, President Mamnoon Hussain emphasized the need for greater people to people contacts between the two countries. The Sri Lankan President thanked the Pakistani side for awards scholarship to Srinlankan students and officers.
Earlier one-on-one meeting was held between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena in Islamabad where both countries agreed to diversify and deepen bilateral relations.
Later, they also held delegation level talks in which issues of mutual importance were discussed. Both sides expressed the hope that bilateral ties will continue to grow in future.The Sri Lankan President extended support for holding of SAARC Summit in Pakistan. Both the countries also signed three MoUs to enhance cooperation in the fields of youth development and training of civil and diplomatic personnel.
The Sri Lankan President also presented corneas to the Prime Minister for treatment of visually impaired persons in Pakistan.
