Pakistan To Take Indiscriminate Action Against Militants: John Bolton

WASHINGTON: United States of America’s (USA) National Security Advisor John Bolton on Tuesday said Pakistani Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has assured that they will take indiscriminate action against the terrorists.

John Bolton took to the twitter and said that Pakistan has assured him that it will take indiscriminate action against the banned outfits.

He wrote on his social media handle; “Spoke with Pakistani FM Qureshi to encourage meaningful steps against JeM and other terrorist groups operating from Pakistan.”

“The FM assured me that Pakistan would deal firmly with all terrorists and will continue steps to deescalate tensions with India,” he added.

A day earlier, according to a press release issued by the Foreign Office (FO), the purpose of the call was to provide Pakistan’s perspective on the recent regional developments.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Indian aggression of 26 February was a violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity. He also said that Pakistan’s response on 27 February was purely in self-defense against external aggression.

He informed John Bolton about the de-escalatory measures taken by Pakistan. The foreign minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to hand over the Indian pilot as a gesture of goodwill towards India.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to hand over the Indian pilot as a gesture of goodwill towards India,” a statement by the FO read.

John Bolton said that he and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, despite being actively engaged in talks with North Korea in Hanoi, monitored the developments between India and Pakistan.

He appreciated Pakistan’s measures, which had helped to lower the tension and urged continued restraint on both sides.

The Foreign Minister cautioned against any Indian misadventure, keeping in view the forthcoming elections, which John Bolton concurred.

Bolton also appreciated Pakistan’s important role in the Afghan peace process. Both leaders agreed to work together to pursue the process.
