Pakistan won’t allow use of any country’s soil against it: Fatemi

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi on Monday said that Pakistan want durable peace in Afghanistan but would not allow using of anyone soil against it.

United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto called on Fatemi in Islamabad on Monday. During the meeting they discussed issues relating to establishing lasting peace in Afghanistan.

Fatemi reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve for effective border management and underlined the need for cooperation by the Afghan side.

Highlighting Pakistan’s desire for lasting peace in Afghanistan, Fatemi said that Pakistan considers Afghan issue solution was political.

He added that Pakistan was desirous of friendly relations with neighboring countries but it would not allow use of any country’s soil against it.

He stressed the importance of politically negotiated settlement as the most viable option for peace and stability in Afghanistan, for which Quadrilateral Coordination Group remained an effective forum.

The UN envoy appreciated Pakistan’s positive role for promoting durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
