Palestinians Win Vote To Chair Group of 77 Countries at UN

New York (October 17, 2018): Instead of United States resistance, Palestine has become head of the important body Group Of 77th United Nation Organization (UNO).

The United Nations General Assembly voted on Tuesday in favor of appointing Palestine as head of the group of 77, a coalition of developing nations at the UN, in a move that allows it to act more like a full U.N. member state during meetings in 2019. While 146 counties voted in favor, only three – Israel, the U.S. and Australia – voted against. 15 countries abstained. The United States, Israel and Australia voted against the move, which won 146 votes in favor. There were 15 abstentions and 29 countries didn’t vote.

“We cannot support efforts by the Palestinians to enhance their status outside of direct negotiations. The United States does not recognize that there is a Palestinian state,” U.S. Deputy U.N. Ambassador Jonathan Cohen told the General Assembly. It is worthwhile to mention here that, including China, there are 134 countries, who are representing this group.

On the other hand, American ambassador called this as UNO biggest mistake and said, we did not recognize Palestine as an independent state.
