Islamabad (May 2, 2017): Supreme court of Pakistan has formed special three-member bench aimed to make ensure the implementation of the apex court verdict on Panama case and monitor the working of Joint Investigation team (JIT).

Earlier, apex court has appointed a coordinator to manage all communication between the bench and the JIT.

The bench comprises Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan will start hearing from tomorrow.

The case filed in the apex court to disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for allegedly misleading the nation on his family’s involvement in corrupt practices, as outlined in the Panamagate scandal, ended on April 20 with the court ordering the formation of a JIT to probe how the family’s money was transferred to Qatar. The final verdict was split 3-2 in the five-judge bench.

The special bench of the Supreme Court has been constituted to examine the case under Section 184/3 of the Constitution.

The JIT was tasked to produce a report and apprise the bench with its latest updates every 15 days. The report will be forwarded to the bench via the additional registrar. The coordinator or liaison will also, in return, forward the directions issued by the bench to the JIT.

Sources told that FIA’s additional director likely to head JIT.
