Panama JIT Meeting starts at Federal Judicial Academy

Islamabad (May 20, 2017): The meeting of Joint Investigation Team constituted by Supreme Court to investigate Sharif family business dealings abroad has started at Federal Judicial Academy.The meeting of the JIT is being headed by JIT Wajid Zia. All the six members of the team are attending the meeting.

According to reports, the JIT will seek guidance from the Supreme Court’s implementation bench on important issue including as how to summon the prime minister for questioning.

The Supreme Court had constituted three-judge special implementation bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan to oversee implementation of its verdict in Panama case.

The JIT will seek approval of the detailed questionnaire it prepared for Prime Minister and family members .

The JIT is empowered to summon the prime minister, his sons and if required others like Finance Minister Ishaq Dar or even Prime Minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

According to the JIT’s terms of reference, it is mandated to probe how the Gulf Steel Mill come into being; what led to its sale; what happened to its liabilities; how did they reach Jeddah, Qatar and the UK; whether Hussain and Hassan Nawaz had the means in the early 1990s to possess and purchase the London flats; whether the sudden appearance of the letters of Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al-Thani is a myth or a reality; who, in fact, is the real and beneficial owner of the Nielsen Enterprises Ltd and Nescoll Ltd; how did Hill Metal Establishment come into existence; where did the money for Flagship Investment Ltd and other companies set up/taken over by the son of the PM come from; and where do the huge sums gifted by Hussain Nawaz to Nawaz Sharif come from.
