Panama JIT’s meeting starts at Federal Judicial Academy

Islamabad (May 18, 2017): The meeting of Joint Investigation Team constituted by Supreme Court to investigate Sharif family business dealings abroad has started at Federal Judicial Academy.

The meeting of the JIT is being headed by JIT Wajid Zia, which will discuss different issues relating to the ongoing probe into Sharif family’s business dealings abroad. All the six members of the team are attending the meeting.

Yesterday, the JIT recorded statement of International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’s (ICIJ) Pakistan representative and senior journalist Umer Cheema.

The six-member committee had asked the various questions from Cheema regarding offshore companies, persons and accounts. JIT had also reviewed the financial documents of Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif and other members of his family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar sent by election commission on the demand of JIT.

Sources said that besides Cheema the committee will also summoned some other persons to record their statements regarding the ongoing investigation.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hassan and Hussain as well as Ishaq Dar and Capt (r) Safdar were ordered to appear before the JIT by the SC.
It is to be mentioned here that during previous proceedings the Team had  discussed in details as to how evidence and certified documents could be obtained from abroad.

The JIT had decided to contact the concerned ministries if any it was necessary to obtain evidence and documents from abroad.

The JIT had already sought television interviews and statements of the Sharif family. The JIT had asked the Press Information Department to submit a summary of the prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz, and Maryam Nawaz’s statements and TV interviews.

The JIT had also reviewed records of NAB reference in Hudaibia Papers Mills submitted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The declarations of assets and others details of Prime Minister and others submitted by Election Commission of Pakistan to the JIT were also reviewed.
