Panama Leaks: Hearing adjourned till Nov 30, SC directs PTI to submit additional proofs

ISLAMABAD: The five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali adjourned the hearing of the petitions seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the revelations made in Panama papers till November 30. The court also directed the lawyer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to submit additional proofs.

At the start of the hearing earlier today Justice Asif Saeed Khosa commented that since accountability has to start from somewhere starting it with the rulers will take the things forward. There have much talks let us work, he added.

Commenting on the application filed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the court prior to the hearing of the case Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali saying that new applications pour in every day and if the court gets involved with them the case will never be decided. Are the institutions are just there to mint money, expressing displeasure at the failure of the institutions to fulfill their responsibilities the Chief Justice added.

Calling the alleged proofs by Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf lies and thus not maintainable application filed by the prime minister asks the court to dismiss the alleged proofs.

PTI’s lawyer Hamid Khan read out prime minister’s speech in the National Assembly on April 5 this year. The prime minister had rejected the allegations and had informed about his business and details of assets, he added. The prime minister mentioned setting up six factories in 18 months and that his sons Hassan and Hussain started business after the sales of factories in Jeddah are important points that should be noted, Hamid arguing before the court said.

There was no mention of properties in London and investment in Dubai in the first address of the prime minister, Hamid Khan added. He also hide the facts about when the assets in Saudi Arabia were sold and when the flats were London were purchased in his speech, Hamid added.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa commented that as per prime minister’s speech he let his children do the business by selling Jeddah steel mill, London flats were not mentioned in his speech.

At one point during the hearing the Chief Justice asked Hamid Khan to provide concrete proof that the prime minister purchased the London flats from black money.

At another point in time Justice Khosa said that the court could not conduct scrutiny of anyone’s entire life.

Justice Azmat asked Hamid Khan at one time during the hearing that now it is his work to see the statements filed by the prime minister and his children and prove that their claims are lies.
