Panama Probe: JIT to Submit Final Report to SC Today

Islamabad (July 10, 2017): The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panama case will submit its report to the three-member special implementation bench of the Supreme Court at 1 p.m.at Court No.3 today.

The six-member JIT team headed by Wajid Zia, the additional director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), will go to the Supreme Court under stringent security. The JIT took only a single day-off on Eid-ul-Fitr. The JIT members also worked till late last night.

It may be mentioned here that the JIT which ceased to exist at midnight Friday met yesterday at Federal Judicial Academy here to finalize the report. The security of JIT members has further been beefed up.  The personnel of Rangers and police will provide security to the JIT members during their appearance before the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court will also hear the case pertaining to cases pertaining to threats hurled at the JIT members and the contempt court.

JIT has submitted three fifteen-day reports to the three-member bench supervising and monitoring the progress of the probe that JIT was tasked to carry out in Panama case.

The responsibility to give the final shape to the report was given to Irfan Mangi and Amir Aziz- with the assistance of other members including its head Wajid Zia.

Sources said that that the JIT vigorously worked to compile its final report which would be based on its findings of the investigation and interviews from different personalities including key members of Sharif family.

The statements given by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz, son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar , brother Shahbaz Sharif, chairman of  National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and others including president of stat-run National Bank Saeed Ahmad, and head of Securities and Exchange Commission.

The sources said that Hudaibiya Paper Mills case was also a focus of the JIT  and it would be a part of the investigation report that it will present to the Supreme Court today.

The three-member special bench of the Supreme Court will seal the fate of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after it review the findings of the JIT report.

The Supreme Court had constituted the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family in Panama Leaks case on May 5. The team comprises of six members including one each from National Accountability Bureau (NAB), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and military among others.
